Music runs in my blood

I stopped being involved in sports during my high school years, and from then on I started doing music. Being alone as a kid, there was a lot of time for me to think. My parents were both working, so during those time I thought of several ideas and later set up a plan.

The momentum was from there. I made a concrete plan in order to persuade my parents. The educational approach in our house was “take care of yourself”, so I had to be very cautious since I would be responsible for all the things I did.

In fact, the first time I said I wanted to do music, my parents didn’t like it. So, in the mean time, my mom and dad left me and asked me to think of what to look forward for if I wanted to become a singer and planned about my decision. In short, it’s like a briefing for my future.  Silently, my parents started to trust me. From then on I had to try my best for the sake of  the faith and trust my parents have given me.

Music. I had to really practice it, since I started later than the others. I tried my best when I’m at the academy. Now, it’s still the same. If someone complimented me by saying “you’re really good”, I will just shake my head. “I still have a long way to go”, that’s what I think.

When I started acting, I felt like music still fills the void that acting cannot, that’s why music is something that I can’t neglect. Acting is something that I need to finish once I started (T/N: like acting in drama, it has a certain time frame), but music is my lifetime companion.

In my mind I wanted to do my best while filming for “A Gentleman’s Dignity”, so in order to do that I had to practice a lot and I lack sleep. Naturally, I also had to cut down the time for my guitar and singing practice.

That was quite stressful for me. This was something that I have always insist on doing, it’s one of my daily routines, which was practicing together with the members. I would be practicing together with the members until 12 in the midnight, and the next day I had to shoot early in the morning. My body was a bit tired, but my mind was a bit relaxed and it still seems more alive. While I attained the energy for the next day, music was my driving force.

I really think that I need to do music steadily. Since I had to practice 4-5 hours a day, my mind is focused on music, so I will continue to do it in the future.

My craving for music deepens from the aspirations that we got through our street performances in Japan.

Our street performances in Japan had pushed our dream that we had before our debut.  Physically and mentally we were very dense, but we did our best towards “the dream”. Those days, if it weren’t for the passion of music; we wouldn’t have this kind of great friendship between us.

I play guitar and would only do the chorus part from behind Yonghwa Hyung’s vocal. But all of sudden I had to stand in place of the main vocalist on behalf of Yonghwa Hyung. Hyung was sent back to Korea at that time to shoot for a drama, leaving only Minhyuk, Jungshin and me. The three of us had to schedule all the performances in Japan and had to continue everything. The position was completely longer (T/N: now that he also had to sing as main vocal), and for the first time I was feeling puzzled and even scared. The members and I couldn’t believe that we managed to get through that.

Because of that opportunity, I was able to grow more in terms of music. Particularly for my vocal, and I made my own songs that makes me looked desirous. It’s really valuable to be able to tell things in making good songs. When someone is comforted through my songs, I’m touched. That was what made me really happy and this feeling is impossible to be replaced.

At first when we started our street performance, no one was looking forward for it. It’s an empty street. But we tried to gather fans, little by little until a few thousand seats filled in a large scale venue. Without them there would be no CNBLUE, and I won’t even be here as Lee Jonghyun.

I think that CNBLUE can still be here till today because of our fans who love our music. Starting from Asia Tour, we went to Los Angeles in the US and now we have performed in as far as UK. The day has finally come, as it has always been our wish to play instruments and have our voices heard at the Home of Rock. From the start we have always been grateful and I will do my best over the time to become a band that will be loved for many people.

CNBLUE Lee Jonghyun will always try to give the best. Hwaiting!!

The Success of U-KISS 1st JAPAN LIVE TOUR 2012 + July Concert Info

The K-POP group with true ability, U-KISS, has attracted the most attention in 2012 and gathered around 25,000 for their first Japan nation-wide tour, “U-KISS 1st JAPAN LIVE TOUR 2012”, which was brought to a close with a big success on March 25th at Zepp Tokyo.

The minute that the members, dressed in their white suits, entered the stage, the whole hall got very excited at the same time. From the start of the live, the fans were very enthusiastic with the uptempo numbers, it started with their 2nd single “Forbidden Love” that they released last month on the 29th, their big hit “Neverland” that released last September in Korea, the Japanese versions of “Bingeul Bingeul” and “Shut Up!!”, which are their popular songs from their Korean activities and others. To have fun with the fans, during “Show Me Your Smile”, the members showed a comical dance that they thought of themselves.
In the middle of the show, they entered the stage wearing monotone clothes to match the concepts of the songs, and showed their unit’s parts one by one. Both Kevin & Hoon’s vocals were showcased in “Take me away”, AJ & Kiseop’s fascinating number “Obsession”, the impressive “Orion” which was based on the vocal team Soohyun・Kevin・Hoon・Kiseop’s beautiful harmonies, the highlight “Eeny,Meeny,Miny,Moe” which was based on the rap team Eli・AJ・Dongho’s trio, they continued with their first song they sang in Japanese, “0330”, which was fully charming.

Approaching the end of the live, they entered the stage in a rock styled black leather and red pants, they did the powerful “Man Man Ha Ni” with their representative “Kangnam (manly)

Dance”, the members showed what kind of singing skill they have with “Someday”, then their beautiful ballad number “A Shared Dream” the title song from their 1st Japanese album, after softly listening to this was the U-KISS styled “Every Day”, and they brought it to a finish with their Japanese debut single “Tick Tack”, an uptempo number.

For the encore, they re-entered the stage wearing their remade tour t-shirts. They enthusiastically sang “Believe” for everyone in Japan that experienced the earthquake disaster. Overcome with emotion, the members tears came out, and also had to shorten the song. Also, in the audience were member Hoon’s parents and brother, who came running from Korea as a surprise, the MC segment was wrapped in a kind atmosphere when they were introduced on the stage. The last was their bright pop number, “Lifetime”, and became one with the fans before ended the live.

Bringing the nation-wide Zepp tour to an end, leader Soohyun commented, “We, U-KISS performed our first nation-wide tour, it became lives with very happy and fun memories with the many people who came. Thank you. We’re thankful to the many staff who lent us their strength to carry out these lives. And above everything, we’re thankful to all the fans who always give us their support. Thanks to everyone, we’re able to have additional lives, and we’re also thankful for that. We’re doing great effort, without forgetting our initial goal, we’ll do our best in order to be recognized as a J-POP artist. I love you.”
In July, hoping to receive the same great success as this tour, there will be 15 lives in 9 cities, they have also decided to scale up by changing the venues to a hall (Hall can hold more people than Zepp)

, and are working to have their (fanclub)

membership exceed 35,000 people.

KARA extends their Japanese contract with Universal Music Japan

Top Hallyu girl group KARA has solidified their ‘Hallyu Princesses’ status by extending their Japanese contract with Universal Music.

A representative from KARA’s management company DSP Media was quoted saying, “KARA’s initial contract with Universal Music Japan was signed in August of 2010 and is set to expire this August. We have successfully extended the contract by a year and four months, meaning that the contract will run until December of 2013.”

Furthermore, as a testament to their continual popularity in Japan, KARA recently sold out all the seats to their upcoming Japanese tour.

The DSP representative explained, “Starting with Yokohama on April 14th, the tour will take place in five different cities for a total of 10 performances. There were 100,000 available tickets for the tour, which all sold out upon its opening sale. In response to this explosive interest, we added two additional performances for May 26th and 27th at the Saitama Super Arena, which seats 15,000 people.

In related news, KARA is currently busy preparing for their Japanese tour while they promote for their 6th Japanese single, “Speed Up/Girl’s Power“.

K-pop album sales in Japan hit all-time high in 2011

Japanese purchases of Korean pop music hit an all-time high last year, according to industry data.

According to Oricon Inc., a provider of music industry statistics, sales of albums, singles, DVDs and blue-ray disks of K-pop increased for the third consecutive year to 24.47 billion yen ($310 million) last year, up 22.3 percent from 2010.

South Korean signers’ annual market share also rose from 6 percent to 7.8 percent during the period. The comparable figure for 2009 was 3 percent. Korea’s leading idol groups Kara and Girls’ Generation advanced to the Japanese market after 2009.

Also in 2011, a total of 10 singles or albums of K-pop singers or groups, including TVXQ, Big Bang, Girls’ Generation, Kara, Jang Keun-suk, T-ara and 2NE1, reached the top position on Oricon’s weekly chart, breaking the record of 2008 when five were on the chart.

Girls’ Generation’s album by the same name and Kara’s “Super Girl” ranked within the top 10 of the Oricon albums yearly chart, selling 642,000 copies and 451,000 copies, respectively.

In the category of total annual sales by an artist, Kara ranked fourth with 4.93 billion yen closely followed by Girls’ Generation with 4 billion yen. TVXQ was the ninth best-selling group, raking in 2.6 billion yen. (Yonhap)
