Super Junior to hold concert in Paris

The writer should have written a 14 member group instead of 10 (I didn’t include Hangeng)

Super Junior

Super Junior, a 10-member K-pop group, will hold its first solo concert in Paris next month, according to reports on Wednesday.

The Paris show is part of Super Junior’s world tour titled “Super Show 4” and will take place on April 6 at Le Zenith de Paris where world-famous stars including Neyo, the Pussycat Dolls and the Jonas Brothers have performed.

The boy band performed for French fans at the same venue last year along with other K-pop artists under SM Entertainment.

In December, the group performed for a record 90,000 people in a two-day concert in Osaka and also held concerts in Singapore and Taipei. The schedule has yet to be confirmed, but they are to visit other cities in Europe and South America as well, according to reports. On March 9-10, the Korean boy band will hold its solo concert in Macao.

Ticket sales for Super Junior’s Paris show open at 10 a.m. on Friday (Paris time) via http://www.livenation.fr.

K-pop stars enthrall French audience

K-pop stars including Girls’ Generation, 2PM and BEAST captivated an audience of about 10,000 at a joint show at Bercy Stadium, one of the biggest concert venues in Paris.

Eight K-pop stars, who also included boyband SHINee and girl groups 4 Minute and SISTAR, performed on “Music Bank in Paris,” a music show produced and distributed by Korea Broadcasting System.

It was the second concert by K-pop stars in the French capital — SM Town concert featuring musicians from SM Entertainment took the place at the Zenith of Paris in June last year.

Despite the cold weather in Paris, K-pop fans from all over Europe including Spain, Italy and the United Kingdom came to Paris to meet their Korean stars, according to reports.

Starting with U-KISS, the show lasted three hours, according to reports.

Girls’ Generation, which made its TV debut in the United States last week, highlighted the show with “The Boys.”

The group also appeared on a popular French talk show on Thursday, ahead of its first album release in Europe early next week.

The Music Bank show featuring K-pop stars in Paris will air on Feb. 18 in 72 countries through KBS World, an international broadcasting service provided by KBS.

‘Sector 7’ is highest grossing Korean film in China

The Korean 3D monster movie “Sector 7” became the highest grossing local movie to open in China, its distributor CJ E&M Pictures said Tuesday.

The film, about an oil rig crew fighting a bloodthirsty sea creature, brought in over 20 million yuan after just one week in theaters as of Dec. 14. This beats previous Chinese box office records set by Korean releases. In 2007 the romantic comedy “200-Pound Beauty” took 16 million yuan while the creature thriller “The Host” earned 14 million yuan.

“Sector 7” opened across some 4,000 screens in the neighboring Asian country on Dec. 6 and topped Hollywood franchises such as Spielberg’s “The Adventures of Tintin” to rank second in the box office.

The film’s distributor says that “Sector 7” was widely marketed as Asia’s first mega-budget 3D spectacle. The film’s heroine Ha Ji-won took part in rigorous promotional tours across Beijing and Shanghai, holding press events and special meetings with fans ahead of its release.

“The Chinese press took interest in the fact that a beautiful female character fights to survive against a mysterious monster, and it helped that Ha Ji-won recently became popular in China through the TV series ‘Secret Garden,’” said CJ E&M Pictures. In addition, top Chinese pop star Vision Wei sang the Chinese version of the film’s theme song, “Run Away,” adding to its publicity.

“Though ‘Sector 7’ did not do very well domestically, it is getting a second chance overseas,” said the film’s distributor. The 14 billion won project yielded disappointing results in the local box office, attracting just 2.2 million viewers.

French and German distributors are looking into prospects of releasing “Sector 7” in Europe, said CJ E&M Pictures.
